How To Keep Your Body Cool in The Summer

It’s that time of year again, where temperatures go up, and we hide indoors. While air conditioning is an everyday staple in Bahrain, did you know that there are other things you can do to keep yourself cool? Read on for a few tips!

1. Use the Freezer:
Your freezer can actually help tremendously when trying to keep cool. Stick in your shirt, pants, or even sheets for about ten minutes in a plastic bag, and then use them. The coolness won’t last for too long, but you’ll get that initial cool feeling, which is a definite refresher.

2. Ice Packs:

Fill a hot water bottle with water and stick it in the freezer. You can then take it with you when you are on the go or use it to cool your toes when you’re relaxing on the couch, or in bed.

3. Stay Low:
Did you know that hot air rises? So, set up your bed or mattress to be as low to the ground as possible, or even move to the lower floor if you’re in a multi-level home.

4. Stay Hydrated:

As obvious as this may sound, drinking plenty of fluids and water is a great way to stay cool and fight the heat.

5. Choose Cotton:
Cotton is known for keeping your cooler than other fabrics, so skip linen and silk, and opt for cotton.

6. Cool Your Toes:

Do you know that your toes have a lot of sensory nerves? Cooling your toes will help you stay cool for longer periods of time.

7. Use Your Hat:
If you’re wearing a hat, damp it with some cold water before wearing it, and it’ll actually help keep you cool!

8. Stay Away from Hear Inducing Foods:
The food we eat actually plays a part in how warm or cool we get. Avoid salty food, or obviously, spicy ingredients. Instead, opt for fresh vegetables and fruits.

9. Wash Your Wrists:
Another trick you can use is to run your wrists under cold water. Since there is a major vein that runs in the hands, it helps cool your blood.

10. Avoid Caffeine:

As hard as it may sound to give up your morning coffee, limiting your intake of caffeine is essential to keeping you cool. Because caffeine pulls water from your body, it actually makes you feel warmer, which is why you should try and limit the amount of caffeine in your diet.
